BANNER ELK -- Ewon Wright led five players in double figures with 22 points, and Mount Olive College rallied past in-state rival Lees-McRae, 85-77, on the Conference Carolinas men's basketball scene Sunday afternoon.
Derek Staton contributed 16 points and four assists for the Trojans, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Brandon Allen collected 15 points and seven rebounds before fouling out, while teammate Dory Hines flirted with a double-double -- 14 points and eight rebounds.
Mahamed Ibrahim pumped in 10 points.
The Trojans avoided their first four-game losing streak since the 2000-01 season.
Lees-McRae (3-8 overall, 0-4 CC) built an 11-point lead in the opening half and entered the locker room ahead 37-31 at intermission.
Wright's 3-pointer off Aleks Mitrovic's assist gave Mount Olive the lead for good, 63-60, with 7:29 to go in regulation. The Trojans slowly pulled away and seized as much an 11-point lead in the closing minutes.
Mount Olive visits St. Andrews on Thursday and begins a stretch of four consecutive home games starting Saturday against Coker (S.C.) College.
