DUDLEY -- Triton's women's cross country team is good.
Unbelievably good.
And the men aren't bad, either.
The Hawks dominated the three-team, Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference meet against Charles B. Aycock and Southern Wayne at the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
Triton runners finished in the top eight spots on the girls' side of the ledger and the top six spots on the boys' worksheet. Both teams recorded perfect scores of 15 points.
"We did not really do much in the offseason as far as hitting the halls or recruiting new runners," said Hawks head coach Darrin Guay. "We have just been blessed with some very talented runners."
Laura Godwin, who won the ECC championship last season as a junior, looked even stronger on Tuesday by posting a time of 23 minutes and 40 seconds. Godwin won the meet by over two minutes in front of teammate Cheyenne Felker.
Kendra Speight paced the Golden Falcons with a time of 28:39 seconds. Cameron Howell (30:32), Kayla Newsome (30:39), Cody Sheeks (31:24) and Rhonjae Perry (32:00) rounded out the Golden Falcons' total of 54 team points.
Southern Wayne finished with 80 team points behind a 17th-place finish from Kanesha Jones (31:00). Damelia Dewitt (31:18), Crystal Rivera (34:17) and Sharron Casto (35:02) each finished in the top 30.
"Our girls think that Triton's so strong because of the uniforms," joked Saints head coach Takisha Vann. "I told my girls that if they start running like Triton, we can get some of those (uniforms)."
On the boys' side, Triton's Nathaniel Tolley captured first place 19:50.
Doug Watkins led the Golden Falcons with a sixth-place finish of 23:07. Dillon Bernel (23:50), Alex Rogers (24:12), Corey Hans (24:23) and Austin Walker (24:33) rounded out the team total of 49 for C.B. Aycock.
Southern Wayne finished with 72 points on the strength of a ninth-place finish by Bryan Miller (23:58). Quandri Blount (24:16), Dylan Atwood (25:10) and Daniel Nilssen (27:35) each finished in the top 20.
The three teams run again Sept. 21 at Triton.
