Volleyball
Rosewood 3, Ayden-Grifton 2
* Rosewood opened its Carolina 1-A Conference campaing with a 25-22, 19-25, 25-22, 19-25, 15-6 win over visiting Ayden-Grifton on Tuesday.
Alyssa Spell handed out 17 assists for the Eagles and Rachael Kornegay added six blocks and five kills. Ellen Morgan provided 12 kills, four digs and three blocks.
Rachyle McAlduff had six digs and Laura Vinson supplied six kills and five digs. Kerri Jo Gurley added four digs and four aces and Megann Tyndall contributed four kills and two digs.
Rosewood (7-2 overall) travels to Goldsboro on Thursday.
Wayne Christian 3,
Crossroads 2
* HENDERSON -- Despite dropping sets two and three, Wayne Christian rallied to claim the final two sets of a 25-18, 19-25, 19-25, 25-8, 15-10 victory at Carolina Christian 1-A foe Crossroads Christian on Tuesday.
Summer Brathwaite, Jessica Swets and Britney O'Hara each tallied six kills for the Eagles. Courtney Albriton, Katie Isenhower and Rachel McCollum each had five aces. Haley Greenwood recorded 26 digs.
Wayne Christian (6-5 overall, 6-1 CCC) entertains Cresset on Friday.
Tarboro 3, Greene Central 2
* SNOW HILL -- Greene Central couldn't outlast Eastern Plains 2-A Conference foe Tarboro in a 10-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-20, 15-4 home loss.
Peri Dail collected 10 kills for the Rams and Kaitlyn Napier had eight kills.
Greene Central (5-8 overall 2-3 EPC) visits EPC opponent Wilson Beddingfield on Thursday.
Berean Christian 3, Faith Christian 1
* Elizabethe Weeks contributed five aces, two digs and a block for the Conquerors in their N.C. Christian Schools Association match.
Taylor Downey provided four blocks and four digs.
Faith (1-5 overall) entertains Falls Road on Friday.
Princeton 3, Spring Creek 0
* SEVEN SPRINGS -- Princeton swept Carolina 1-A Conference foe Spring Creek 25-10, 25-9, 25-7 on Tuesday.
Linda Smith distributed nine aces for the Bulldawgs to go with two aces and two digs. Savanna Massengill tallied six aces, two kills and two blocks.
Traci Bridgers collected five aces and two kills. Lolita Correno had four assists for the Gators. Brittany Collier supplied four kills and three assists. Bianaca Morado provided three kills.
Princeton (5-5 overall, 1-0 CC) plays host to North Duplin on Thursday while Spring Creek (1-5, 0-1 CC) travels to Ayden-Grifton.

* Kasheika Wallace finished with seven kills for the Cougars and Sterling Simmons had five aces.
Goldsboro (1-8 overall, 0-1 CC) entertains Rosewood on Thursday.

Trinity-Fayetteville 0
* Hannah Pearson paced the Chargers with six kills, six assists and five aces. Kim Martell pounded out 14 kills to go with four aces and a dig. Sterling Coggins distributed eight assists and Edie Hooks had five assists. Natalie Ecker provided four aces, two kills and two digs.
Wayne Country Day (8-2) visits The Epiphany School on Thursday.
Boys' soccer
Wayne Country Day 6, Oakwood 3
* GREENVILLE -- Tyson Pearson scored three times and Bryce Creger added a pair of goals. Hil Tanner had a pair of assists and a goal.
Pearson also tallied an assist.
The Chargers (8-4 overall) travel to Greenfield on Thursday.
Girls' tennis
Spring Creek 5,
North Duplin 4
* SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek held off Carolina 1-A Conference opponent North Duplin for a 5-4 victory on Tuesday afternoon.
Heather Frey, Katlyn Casey, Brittany Carmack and Anna Hagerty were each singles winners for the Gators. The doubles team of Carmack-Hagerty also prevailed.
Lea Taylor and Flor Estrella earned wins in singles play for the Rebels. The doubles teams of Taylor-Alanna Jones and Estrella-Nikki Goodman also prevailed.
The Gators (2-0 overall, 2-0 CC) travel to Ayden-Grifton on Thursday.
Cardinal Gibbons 9,
Greene Central 0
* RALEIGH -- Cardinal Gibbons claimed all nine matches of a 9-0 non-conference victory over visiting Greene Central on Tuesday.
"We got to see today why Cardinal Gibbons is one of the best teams in North Carolina," said Rams' head coach Donald Clark. "We certainly played better against them than we did in Winston-Salem at the Twin Cities Invitational, but they simply overwhelmed us with their ground strokes today."
Greene Central (9-5 overall) plays host to Parrott Academy today.
Cross country
Eagles outrun competition
* Wayne Christian's boys finished first in a five-team meet at Waynesborough Park on Tuesday afternoon.
The Eagles' Connor Jones was the top male finisher with a time of 18 minutes, 57 seconds. Epiphany's McKinley Gray was second in 19:32. Wayne Christian's Will Massey and Mark Sawyer finished fourth and fifth respectively. The Eagles' Spence Foster finished sixth with teammate Will Garner crossing the line in eighth place.
Wayne Christian compiled a team score of 24 points to win the boys' portion of the meet. Epiphany was second with 46 points and Wayne Country Day was third with 102.
Wayne Country Day's Lisa Peacock finished fourth in the girls' race with a time of 27:07. Sarah Allen was the Eagles' top runner finishing in ninth place. Kayla Kennedy came home in 11th place.
Cape Fear captured the girls' meet with a team score of 14. Epiphany (27) was in second place ahead of Wayne Country Day's score of 29. The top three finishers for each team were scored.
Wayne Christian did not record a team score.
Warriors girls first,
boys second
* Heather Black logged a fourth-place time of 26 minutes, 5 seconds, and helped Eastern Wayne claim a 21-38 victory over North Lenoir during a three-team, Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference meet.
Kristen Larson (26:39), Christy Interrante (28:47) and Crystalla Rochell (29:11) crossed the line in sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively. Jessica Reams completed the Warriors' scoring with a 10th-place time of 29:58.
On the boys' side, Eastern Wayne's Caleb Cooper (19:22) and Denzel Benjamin (19:33) captured fourth and fifth place, respectively. Teammates Warren Kirkwood (19:47), Noland Kirkwood (20:54) and Michael Pinkston (21:05) contributed to the Warriors' score.
South Johnston won the meet 25-38 over Eastern Wayne. North Lenoir and Cleveland also participated.
Golf
Walnut Creek LGA
* Faye Franklin claimed play-of-the-day honors for weekly tournament action at Walnut Creek. Novella Zambelli and Hiromi Sueki shared low gross honors in first flight, while Gaye Bryant took low net.
In second flight, Linda Hilburn and Nancy Satterfield tied for low gross. Pete Reaves seized low net.
Hilburn and Cannon captured first and second net, respectively, during third flight play in an Eastern Ladies League event contested at Willow Springs Country Club in Wilson. Satterfield had second net in fourth flight and Franklin won low putts.
Lane Tree LGA
* Nan Jarrell emerged the game-of-the-week winner during action contested on the Lane Tree Golf Club links. Mary Ann Sutton and Linda Watson won low net and low putts, respectively.
Jarrell and Sutton grabbed second low gross and second low net, respectively, during second flight play in an Eastern Ladies League tournament at Willow Springs CC.
Susan Davis (first low gross), Linda Hilburn (first low net) and Betty Jean Gurley (low putts) fared well in third flight play. In fourth flight, Lou Ellen Flowers won second low gross and Theresa Merritt had first low net.
JV sports
* Volleyball: Faith Christian d. Berean Christian 25-18, 25-19 -- Hannah Stocks finished five aces and a kill for the Conquerors (4-1 overall). Kayla Johnson had two kills and two aces. Courtney Dale added three aces.
* Volleyball: Princeton d. Spring Creek 25-13, 25-10 -- Lauren Woodard led Princeton with 14 assists and three aces. Amber Hill chipped in five kills and five aces. Tori Paul added five aces and two kills.
* Volleyball: North Duplin d. Goldsboro 25-8, 25-19 -- The Cougars (0-5 overall, 0-1) play host to Rosewood on Thursday.
* Volleyball: Cape Fear Christian d. Wayne Country Day 25-20, 25-16 -- Sarah Crooks contributed three aces for the Chargers (3-5). Stephanie Schapell and Alexandra Draughton each had three digs.
* Soccer: Oakwood 6, Wayne Country Day 1 -- Charlie Roethling scored the Chargers' lone goal.
* Volleyball: C.B. Aycock d. Eastern Wayne 25-22, 23-25, 25-12 -- Meredith Burroughs served 10 aces and had two kills for the Golden Falcons. Teammates Emily Boyd (seven aces) and Karen Craig (one kill) contributed to the win. Brooke Dougherty and Haley Smith combined for five aces and kills for the Warriors. Stephanie Smith added a kill. Aycock (3-3 overall) picked up its first Eastern Carolina 3-A win of the season. Eastern Wayne (7-4) dropped to 0-3 in the league.
Middle schools
* Spring Creek d. Mount Olive 25-13, 12-25, 25-21, 25-23 -- Stormy Westbrook led the Gators with six service aces. Shalyn Edward recorded five aces, while Sarah Ford and Zaira Resardiz had four aces apiece. Spring Creek improved to 2-0 overall.

Football League
* 8-Under: C.B. Aycock 34, Spring Creek 7 -- Kyle Moore and Noah Overton rushed for two touchdowns apiece in the Little Falcons' season-opening game. Clay Matthews and Nick Lewis each scored a touchdown. Defensive standouts were J.J. Easto and Matthew Newsome.
* 12-Under: C.B. Aycock 35, Spring Creek 15 -- Devonte Corum led the Gators' ground game with 100 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown, and one reception for 15 yards. Shykhym Allen rushed for 64 yards and a touchdown. Cole Steiner and Nick Russo combined for 30 offensive yards. Defensive leaders were Sterling Dodson (five tackles, one assist), Allen (three tackles) and Germar Buchanan (sack). It was the season-opening game for both teams.
* 8-Under: Mount Olive 26, Princeton 12 -- Jamari Leach rushed for two touchdowns, while Jalen Thompson and Davien Thompson each scored one TD. Quadrez Lassiter paced the Hurricanes' defense with 10 tackles. Matthew Kornegay had four tackles.
* 10-Under: Mount Olive 40, Princeton 15 -- Josh McClain rambled for three touchdowns, while Mo Brooks scored twice in the Hurricanes' season-opening win. Daeon Sims provided one TD. Kejuan Leary (six stops) recovered a fumble and Ryan Smith had two tackles for the Mount Olive defense.
* 12-Under: Mount Olive 37, Princeton 28 -- Quentin Carlton led the four-time, age-group defending champion with three touchdowns. James Leonard found the end zone twice, while Carte Jones supplied one TD. Zach Price, Cole Barrick and Hunter Barwick recorded four tackles apiece on defense. Leonard recovered a fumble.
