Paxson goal sparks road victory

WILSON -- Sarah Porter notched the game-winning goal in the 88th minute and Cara Paxson added an insurance goal 46 seconds later during Mount Olive College's 5-3 victory over Conference Carolinas women's soccer rival Barton on Tuesday evening.

It was the league opener for both teams.

Porter and Lindsey Stanley finished with two goals apiece for the Trojans, and Stanley collected an assist on each of Mount Olive's final two goals.

Mount Olive (3-2-1, 1-0-0 CC) enjoyed a seemingly comfortable 3-1 advantage with 10 minutes to go, but Barton (0-3-0, 0-1-0) struck twice with goals in a three-minute span to tie the match and set up the Trojans' exciting finish.

"There really wasn't any panic," Stanley said. "We knew we just had to regroup and play together as a team."

The victory marked the first time the Trojans have ever beaten Barton on its home field. Mount Olive had defeated the Bulldogs on three previous occasions, but none of those wins came in Wilson. The five goals were the most scored by the Trojans in con
