Girls' golf

C.B. Aycock finishes third

* WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock carded a team score of 278, which was good enough for third place at the annual Willow Springs Invitational on Wednesday afternoon.

West Carteret won the team event with a 275 total. Wilson Fike was one stroke behind with a 276.

Tara Simmons paced the Golden Falcons with a round of 73. Jessie Stewart added a 101, Jordyn Howell carded a 108 and Madison Aycock finished with a 113.

Fike's Mallory Warrick was the individual medlaist with an even-par 72.

C.B. Aycock will be back in action on Monday at Pine Hollow Golf Club for the second Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference match of the season.

Boys' soccer

Cleveland 0

* PIKEVILLE -- C.B. Aycock dominated play, but never found its offensive touch in a 1-0 win over Cleveland High School on Wednesday night.

The Golden Falcons tallied 28 shots on goal, while the Rams managed just one.

Tyler Lynch scored the home team's lone marker in the 38th minute off an assist by Travis Musselman. Brandon Davis recorded just one save in goal.

C.B. Aycock (8-2-1 overall, 3-0-1 ECC) travels to Eastern Wayne on Monday night.

Girls' tennis

Eastern Wayne 9,

North Lenoir 0

* Three-time defending Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference champion Eastern Wayne hammered North Lenoir, 9-0, on Tuesday afternoon.

Miller Delbridge, Janielle Daniel, Grace Delbridge, Joann Talton, Amber Miller and Morgan Jeffreys each emerged victorious in singles action. G. Delbridge-Miller and Jackie Johnson-Jenna Martin each earned a doubles point.

The Hawks forfeited No. 3 doubles.

Eastern Wayne (8-3 overall, 5-0 ECC) entertains South Johnston today.

Wilson Hunt 4

* PIKEVILLE -- C.B. Aycock captured four points during singles play en route to a hard-fought 5-4, non-conference win over Wilson Hunt on Wednesday evening.

Harlie Howard, Brittany Parrish, Misty Edwards and Caroline Bone each prevailed in their respective singles matches.

The tandem of Howard-Edwards claimed the Golden Falcons lone singles point.

On Tuesday, the Golden Falcons defeated Southern Wayne 7-1. Abbey Strickland, Gurley, Howard, Parrish and Edwards each captured a singles point.

Howard-Edwards and Tiffany Godwin-Caroline Bone won in doubles.

C.B. Aycock (6-6 overall) entertains Triton today.

Volleyball

Goldsboro 0

* Junior hitter Tearra Ammons collected eight kills, two blocks and five digs in the Rebels' 25-18, 25-21, 25-18 triumph over their Carolina 1-A Conference rival.

Hannah Brock dished out 10 assists and served five aces. Scarlett Martin (four aces), Alonna Pate, Angelica Favela (five digs), Skylar McCarty (four aces, three digs) and Ansley Hill (two aces) contributed to the win.

North Duplin (4-5 overall, 1-0 CC) travels to Princeton today.

* 12-Under: Eastern Wayne 14, Rosewood 6 -- Isaiah Hatchett and Jayden Bauer led the Wee Warriors' ground game with 112 and 63 yards rushing, respectively. Lee Daniels completed three passes for 31 yards. Keyshawn Johnson and Brock Johnson emerged the defensive leaders in Eastern Wayne's season-opening win.

* 12-Under: C.B. Aycock 35, Spring Creek 15 -- Tyrique Ford, Zack Smith, Ashton McGee, Bradley Pate, C.J. Jackson and Jake Flowers powered the Little Falcons on offense. Defensive standouts were McGee, Damien Darden and Cameron Kornegay. It was the season-opening game for both teams.

JV sports

* Volleyball: North Duplin d. Goldsboro 25-8, 25-19 -- Lyndsie Harrell delivered a match-high six kills and served four aces. Ansley Hill contributed a match-high 11 aces and five assists. Jasmine Jones, Kristen Martin (four aces) and Mia Owens also contributed to the straight-set sweep.
