Boys' soccer

Goldsboro 8, Rocky Mount Prep 0

* Alan Odom broke loose for a hat trick (three goals) and Goldsboro earned its first soccer victory of the season with an 8-0 triumph over Rocky Mount Prep on Monday night.

Bryan Johnson recorded a pair of goals and a pair of assists, while Jeff Martinez added two goals and an assist. Steven Richardson scored the Cougars' final goal. Damon Pate delivered two assists.

"To come out and play as hard as we have and get this first win, it's special," said Goldsboro head coach Tyler Gatlin. "I could not be more proud of my guys."

Goldsboro (1-6-0) will have an extended break before opening Carolina 1-A Conference play Sept. 27 against Ayden-Grifton.

South Johnston 1, C.B. Aycock 1

* FOUR OAKS -- Defending Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference regular-season champion South Johnston scored in the second minute of the game and eventually held on for a 1-1 draw against Charles B. Aycock on Monday night.

Travis Musselman scored the Golden Falcons' lone goal in the 34th minute off of a free kick. Brandon Davis finished with eight saves for C.B. Aycock.

C.B. Aycock (7-2-1 overall, 2-0-1 ECC) entertains Cleveland High School on Wednesday.

Wilson Fike 2, Eastern Wayne 1

* WILSON --Nick Bowden scored the Warriors' lone goal off a penalty kick as Eastern Wayne dropped a 2-1 decision to Wilson Fike on Monday.

Eastern Wayne travels to Southern Wayne on Wednesday.

Tennis

East Duplin 7, Southern Wayne 2

* BEULAVILLE -- East Duplin swept through doubles play and secured a 7-2, non-conference win over Southern Wayne on Monday afternoon.

Mollianne Kennedy and Taylor Davis each prevailed in their respective singles matches for the Saints.

Southern Wayne (2-5 overall) jumps back into Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play today against county rival C.B. Aycock.

Wilson Fike 9, C.B. Aycock 0

* WILSON -- Wilson Fike dominated singles play en route to a 9-0 win over C.B. Aycock on Monday afternoon.

The Golden Falcons' best opportunity for a point came in doubles play where Kimber Pender and Rachel Jackson forced an extra game before falling 9-7.

C.B. Aycock (3-6 overall) is the guest of Southern Wayne today.

Volleyball

Midway 3, Rosewood 2

* SPIVEY'S CORNER -- Rosewood battled for an early advantage, but it was not enough to hold off Midway in a 25-13, 24-26, 8-25, 25-20, 15-13 defeat on Monday night.

Ellen Morgan led the Eagles with nine kills and three blocks. Meagan Tyndall added five kills and five digs. Alyssa Spell dished out 11 assists.

Rosewood (6-2 overall) begins defense of its co-Carolina 1-A Conference regular-season title at home today against Ayden-Grifton.

Smithfield-Selma 3, Princeton 2

* SMITHFIELD -- Princeton jumped out to an early lead but could not get the final surge it needed to put the match away in a 13-25, 25-20, 18-25, 25-16, 15-13 defeat against Smithfield-Selma on Monday.

Traci Bridgers and Hannah Woodard each tallied five kills to lead the Dawgs. Linda Smith dished out 18 assists. Kaitlyn Peedin recorded 10 digs.

Princeton (4-5 overall) travels to Spring Creek tonight.

JV sports

* Volleyball: Midway d. Rosewood 25-15, 25-20 -- Alicia Burns paced the Eagles with four digs. Scout Anderson finished with two assists and two aces. Rosewood fell to 5-2 overall.

* Volleyball: Wayne Christian d. Wayne Country Day 25-15, 20-25, 25-21 -- Rachel McCollum finished with 20 service aces and four kills for the Eagles.

* Soccer: C.B. Ayock 5, South Johnston 1 -- Collin Zacurchek scored two goals in the victory. Bryson Tart, Clay Best and Arunifo Diaz each added one marker for the Golden Falcons (4-0-1 overall).

* Soccer: Rosewood 1, North Lenoir 1 -- Brett Robinson notched the lone goal for the Eagles. Daniel Herring finished with eight saves in goal. Rosewood improved to 0-0-1 overall.

Middle schools

* Soccer: Brogden 2, Norwayne 0 -- Jesus Macia and Angel Carmona each recorded a goal for the Rams. Brogden imroved to 2-0 overall.

* Volleyball: Rosewood d. Dillard 25-17, 24-26, 27-25 -- Callie Thornton tallied eight kills for the Eagles. Lexi Mercer finished with four kills. Rosewood improved to 3-0 overall.

Neuse River Youth Football

Rosewood 13, Eastern Wayne 0

* Trent Lancaster and Amrei Atwell each recorded a touchdown in the Eagles' season-opening win over the Wee Warriors in their 8-Under game Tuesday evening. Defensive standouts were Hinton Cox, Jack White, David Baker, Ethan Jakab, Atwell and Lancaster.
