PONTE VERDA BEACH, Fla. -- Mount Olive College golfer Valentina Urquiola trails by one stroke after opening-round play of the Queens University Invitational, which began Monday at the famed TPC Sawgrass complex, home of the PGA Players Championship.
The junior from Anzoategui, Venezuela, carded a round of 4-over par 76 on the very difficult Dye's Valley Course, which was co-designed by and named for legendary golf course designer Pete Dye. Urquiola shares second place with Michele Low of Belmont Abbey, and trails only Jennifer Gartin of West Florida, who shot a 75.
