Gregory Alexander delivered a rousing opening act and Chase Darden provided the encore.

Alexander scored three times in the first half and Darden added a pair of goals in Wayne Christian's 5-3 home victory over Carolina Christian 1-A Conference foe Cape Fear Christian on Tuesday afternoon.

Alexander scored three times in the first 20 minutes off assists from Chris Smith, Darden and Victor Kokiko. It was Alexander's first game since being injured in the Brittany VI invitational in Wilson nearly two weeks ago.

"It's good to have Gregory back," said Eagles head coach Daryl Anderson. "It's good to have two guys up front that can work together. I'm looking forward to some more good stuff."

Wayne Christian controlled the majority of the possession and held Cape Fear to just five shots in the first half.

Darden's goal early in the second half extended the Eagles' lead to 4-0. After Cape Fear pulled to within 4-2, Darden added his second goal of the match in the closing minutes.

Kenny Gillman scored twice for Cape Fear in the second half and Jimmy Blackman also found the back of the net.

Chase King recorded seven saves in goal.

Wayne Christian (8-2-0 overall) improved to 5-0-0 in conference play and visits CCC opponent Community Christian on Thursday.

"We're having to play at a high level," said Anderson. "I emphasize if you want to win the conference you've got to win and you've got to play hard. We're going after another conference title."
