CHARLOTTE -- Erika Conner collected six kills as Mount Olive dropped a 25-16, 25-16, 25-16 decision to unbeaten Queens University of Charlotte on Tuesday evening.

It was the Conference Carolinas women's volleyball opener for both teams.

Ashlee Reuter and Carly White added four kills apiece in the three-set road loss. White supplied a team-leading four blocks.

Mount Olive (1-4 overall, 0-1 CC) opens its home schedule Friday with a two-day, five-team invitational. The Trojans play Millersville (Pa.) University and Newberry (S.C.) on the opening day, and battle Francis Marion (S.C.) and Fairmont State (W. Va.) on Saturday.

Men's golf

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- Junior Kyle Ham carded a 1-over par 73 to pace the Mount Olive men's golf team during final-round play of the Kiawah Island Invitational at Cougar Point Golf Course on Tuesday.

Mark O'Hara followed Ham in second-round scoring for the Trojans with a 75. Scott Woodard contributed a 78, while David Shields and Joachim Hagevall both shot an 80 on the 6,875-yard layout.

The team posted a second-round total of 306 and a two-day score of 606, which placed Mount Olive 14th in the 21-team field.

O'Hara and Woodard tied for 34th overall with a two-day total of 150. Ham finished two shots back in a tie for 50th. Shields finished in a tie for 61st at 154, while Hagevall was tied for 82nd.

The Trojans return to action on Sept. 27-28 when they will co-host the Mount Olive-Barton Invitational at Lane Tree Golf Club.
