Wayne Country Day worked on its own game.

Flora MacDonald provided little opposition.

The Chargers dominated throughout a 25-10, 25-13, 25-12, non-conference victory Wednesday night.

"I told my girls to stay aggressive and play their game and tonight they did that," said Wayne Country Day head coach Juliet Jones. "We were able to get our return game together and set up our offense with some good passing."

Kim Martell and Hannah Pearson controlled the play at the net as they continually belted kills through the Cougars' defense. Pearson led the Chargers' offense with nine kills, one block and six aces. Martel also finished with nine kills.

"Hannah never played volleyball before last season and now it's her favorite sport," said Jones. "She has an unbelievable serve and she uses her length to her advantage at the net."

In the opening set, the teams played back-and-forth until a kill from Pearson and three consecutive aces by Sarah Crooks ignited a nine-point scoring run that put the set away. The second set followed a similar pattern when the Chargers broke open a 12-9 game with an eight-point scoring streak.

The final set was equally lopsided.

After the Cougars jumped out to a 3-0 lead on three unforced errors by the Chargers, the home team delivered 11 consecutive points thanks to Pearson's strong serve. The Chargers cruised from that point forward.

Flora MacDonald finished the match with zero kills as a team. The Cougars were called for illegal formation five times for moving before the serve. The match lasted just 39 minutes.

Wayne Country Day (5-1 overall) entertains Wayne Christian on Monday.
