MURFREESBORO -- Kirk Peterson notched the eventual game-winning goal in the 36th minute, and Mount Olive College hammered Chowan University 4-0 on the men's college soccer scene Wednesday afternoon.

John Mendoza, Vieux Sarr and Vedad Ahmetovic also scored for the Trojans, who improved to 1-1-1 overall this season. Chris McClaugherty and Marcus Krueger each provided an assist.

MOC goalies Shane Parman and Brad Newman combined for the shutout.

The Trojans haven't allowed goal in 188 consecutive minutes.

Mount Olive entertains Catawba on Saturday. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Amon Field.

Women's soccer

MOUNT OLIVE -- Freshmen Sarah Porter and Becky Sanzole each converted a goal, and Mount Olive shut out Columbia (S.C.) College 2-0 at Amon Field on Wednesday evening.

Porter's goal in the 51st minute broke a scoreless tie.

Sanzole provided an insurance goal 15 minutes later off Lyndsey Stanley's second assist of the game.

MOC keeper Lyndsey McIntyre collected two saves and earned her first shutout of the season.

The Trojans (2-1-1 overall) travel to Lincoln Memorial on Saturday. Kickoff is 2 p.m.
