WARSAW -- James Kenan made a key defensive stand and quarterback Parker Jones scored with fewer than 60 seconds left in a 28-25, season-opening comeback win at Bill Taylor Field on Friday night.

The Tigers' defense stopped the Dark Horses on fourth-and-two at the Kenan 20 yard line with fewer than three minutes left.

Jones 9-yard touchdown run with 41 seconds to play capped the Tigers' comeback.

"They drove down on us and had to chance to put it away and they came up about six inches short," said Kenan head coach Ken Avent Jr. "On our last drive we really ran the ball down the field. We spread it out and ran it and we made a couple of real big runs."

Devon Best led the Tigers' offense with 62 yards rushing on 11 carries. Jones had 61 yards on the ground on nine carries with two touchdowns.

Dontrill Hyman had 11 stops defensively.

James Kenan (1-0 overall) visits Jones Senior on Friday.
