Soccer

Wayne Christian 3, Cresset 1

* Gregory Alexander notched two goals, while Jordan Crouthamel added one goal and an assist. Chase King recorded four saves for the Eagles, who won their Carolina Christian 1-A Conference opener. Wayne Christian (2-0-0 overall, 1-0-0 CCC) travels to Fayetteville Christian on Monday.

Greenville Christian Invitational

Wayne Country Day 7, Trinity-Greenville 2

* Senior Tyson Pearson and junior Hil Tanner each logged a hat trick in the Chargers' opening-round win on Friday.

Pearson scored twice in the first half and assisted on Tanner's second goal -- a volley into the back of the net. Max Park assisted on Tanner's first goal that helped spark a five-goal surge in a 15-minute span.

Defensive back Jack Langston spearheaded the Chargers' fifth goal of the half. He picked up a loose ball, passed to Cody Neal and continued a run down the sideline, which ended up a goal-scoring play from Neal.

WCDS led 5-1 at halftime.

Pearson and Tanner each provided a second-half goal.

Keeper Zack Brewer-Kirby notched four saves.

Salem Baptist 2, Wayne Country Day 1

* Pearson scored unassisted in the 78th minute in Saturday's championship game.

WCDS allowed goals in the 17th and 50th minutes.

Neal played keeper in place of Brewer-Kirby, who suffered an injury on Friday.

"That hurt taking Cody off the field and putting him in goal,"said Chargers head coach Michael Taylor. "That took away one of my strikers."

Wayne Country Day (1-2-0 overall) entertains Goldsboro onWednesday.

Tennis

Greene Central 6, C.B. Aycock 3

* State-ranked Greene Central triumphed in two of three doubles matches and finished the opening week of regular-season play unbeaten (3-0). The Rams received singles points from Lauren Carraway, Hayes Lovett, Brittany Colie and Kayla Radford. The tandems of Carraway-Jessica Hatch and Laurie Sutton-Radford triumphed in doubles.

Harlie Howard and Misty Edwards were responsible for the Golden Falcons' three points. Howard and Edwards each won in singles, then teamed up for an 8-3 decision at No. 2 doubles.

Aycock (0-2 overall) begins its Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference season Tuesday at Triton.

Volleyball

Wayne Christian 3, Cresset 0

* Senior middle hitter Summer Brathwaite recorded six kills and five blocks in the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference opener for the Eagles. Britney O'Hara contributed seven kills and five digs. Libero Haley Greenwood served seven aces. Katie Isenhower delivered 14 assists and collected four aces. Wayne Christian (1-1 overall, 1-0 CCC) travels to Fayetteville Christian on Monday.

Princeton 3, Corinth-Holders 0

* Savanna Massengill played a superb floor game with 10 kills, eight digs, five service aces and one block in the Bulldogs' straight-set win. Linda Smith handed out a match-high 25 assists to go along with six aces and four digs. Traci Bridgers contributed six kills, seven aces and five digs. Katlyn Peedin (8 digs), Keely Myers (nine digs) and Hannah Woodard (seven digs) played well defensively. Princeton (3-0 overall) is the guest of Charles B. Aycock on Tuesday.
