WILSON -- Eastern Wayne moved the football, but could not find the end zone in a 29-0 loss to Wilson Hunt on Friday night.

Eastern Wayne's defense kept the team in the ballgame until halftime by only allowing one Hunt touchdown.

In the third quarter, the home team found its offensive footing.

Senior running back Caleb Driver scored two touchdowns and ran for 68 yards in his first game back after injuring his ACL and MCL in the final game of last year's regular season. Driver scored on a 10-yard run in the third and a two-yard run later in the quarter to break open a close game.

Gilbert Niez, who was a lineman in 2009 but switched to fullback this season, capped the scoring on a 12-yard run with one minute left in the period.

"They broke one big play and it kind of broke our backs a little bit," said Eastern Wayne head coach Guy Williams. "Hunt got in the end zone and all of the sudden they were there two more times."

Lamar Best, making plays at quarterback, running back and receiver, led Eastern Wayne with 125 yards on 27 carries and added two catches for 43 yards.

Eastern Wayne (0-1 overall) entertains county rival Goldsboro on Friday.
