MOUNT OLIVE -- Virginia prep standouts Joneiqua Gary and Jasmine McDonald have signed national letters-of-intent to play women's basketball at Mount Olive College.
A 5-foot-7 guard, Gary helped lead Booker T. Washington to the district championship before falling to the nation's 21st-ranked team. Off the court, Gary served as the school's senior class secretary.
McDonald, a 5-7 forward, averaged 10.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game at Mount Vernon HS. She earned second-team, all-region honors from the Northern Virginia Women's Basketball Coaches Association. As a senior, McDonald served as vice president of the Student Government Association at Mount Vernon.
"Both young ladies are coming from very solid high school programs," said MOC head women's basketball coach Wendy Lee, who is entering her 11th season. "Joneiqua and Jasmine will give us added depth on the perimeter."
The Trojans have posted five consecutive winning seasons -- the longest streak in program history -- and recorded back-to-back 20-win seasons in 2007-08 and 2008-09. MOC finished 16-12 overall last year and 15-7 in Conference Carolinas play.
