MOUNT OLIVE -- Wayne County Post 11 got a timely hit from Adron Hollowell and claimed a doubleheader split against Kinston Post 43 on Saturday night.

Hollowell launched a solo home run that locked up a 3-2 victory in game one. Kinston won the nightcap, 7-6.

"Adron has had a knack for getting the big hit all year and tonight he came through again," said Post 11 head coach Rob Watt. "He had a couple big RBIs tonight in both games, but obviously that home run was huge."

The opener boiled down to a pitcher's duel as Mount Olive College signee Josh Frederick hurled a complete game that slightly bettered Cody Heath's five-inning outing.

Wayne County opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Kevin Wise reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a single by Hollowell.

Post 11 added a second run in the second inning when Cambric Moye led off with a double and scored on an RBI single off the bat of Cody Davis.

Frederick cruised through four innings without allowing a hit before Kinston finally got its offense in gear during the top of the fifth.

Ty Eason lined a double to left field and was followed by a base hit from Everett Charlton. C.J. Bradshaw made it three hits in a row with an RBI double to deep center that tied the game at 2-2.

Hollowell untied it in the bottom of the sixth with his home run.

Frederick finished the game and earned the mound win.

"Josh has been our number one guy and he is going to be our number one guy going forward," said Watt. "We are going to manage his innings and see if we can ride him a little bit late in the year."

Game two did not go nearly as well for the home team.

After Hollowell gave Post 11 a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third with a base hit, Kinston struck for a big inning of its own.

Wes Sowers, Landon DeBruhl and Tyler Potter each singled. Josh Lovick drew a bases-loaded walk. Mike Wehterington forced in another run when he was hit by a pitch. Alex Brann reached on an error and Sowers capped the five-run inning with a single.

"All of our losses have come down to one bad inning," said Watt. "Kinston can swing the bats and we did not do a good job of limiting their opportunities."

A two-run single by Cody Davis tied the game at 5-5 in the fourth, but Kinston immediately retook the lead on a Wetherington triple in the fifth. An RBI single by DeBruhl made it 7-5 in the sixth.

Wayne County got an RBI single from Zack Mozingo in the home half of the seventh, but Post 43 reliever Patrick DuBose shut the door and preserved the victory.

Zach Beachum allowed one run in an inning of relief and was saddled with the mound loss.

Wayne County (13-6 overall) travels to Ahoskie today for a 2 p.m. contest. Post 11 concludes regular-season play at home Monday against defending Area I champion Rocky Mount. First pitch is 7 p.m. at Scarborough Field.
