James Kenan and Goldsboro have earned top-15 rankings in the 2010 NCpreps.com Class 1-A preseason football poll.
The Tigers are 11th and the Cougars, the eastern 1-A runners-up a year ago, are 13th overall.
Goldsboro launches its season Aug. 20 at Wilmington New Hanover.
Jr. Legion
Aycock prevails
FOUR OAKS -- Jeff Davis clubbed a grand slam home run, and Charles B. Aycock throttled Benson, 18-2, on the Junior American Legion baseball scene Monday evening.
Davis finished with five RBI in the mercy rule-shortened contest.
Travis Musselman (3 RBI) doubled twice in three at-bats, while Justin Barbour contributed two hits and an RBI. Dustin Price, Collin DuBose (RBI), Logan Brown (RBI) and Bryant Stafford (RBI) provided one hit apiece.
Aycock pitcher Avery Anderson limited Benson to one earned run on two hits and logged five strikeouts in a complete-game effort.

Nan Jarrell emerged the game-of-the-week winner during play on the Lane Tree Golf Club links.
Betty Jean Gurley and Susan Davis captured low net and low putts, respectively.
Walnut Creek LGA
Linda Cannon won play-of-the-day honors during weekly tournament action at Walnut Creek Country Club.
Novella Zambelli claimed low gross. Pete Reaves and Gaye Bryant seized low net and low putts, respectively.
