Gregory Alexander scored both of Wayne Christian's goals in a 2-0 victory over Trinity of Raleigh in the Carolina Christian 1-A Conference soccer tournament semifinals on Thursday.

The win propelled the top-seeded Eagles (15-5-1) into today's tournament finals against Cape Fear Christian.

Chase King recorded six saves in goal for Wayne Christian.

Volleyball

Faith moves on

Faith Christian advanced to the second round of the N.C. Christian Schools Association Coastal Region 2-A tournament with a 19-25, 25-22, 25-16, 23-25, 15-13 win over visiting Neuse Christian on Thursday.

Zoe Singer pounded out 11 kills to go with three blocks and two digs. Madison Caudle supplied 11 kills, three blocks and two digs. Christina Powell handed out 11 assists, while Tia Downey had six digs.

Courtney Albritten added six kills and four aces. Elizabethe Weeks chipped in four aces.

The Conquerors (7-6 overall) continue tournament play today at Berean Christian.

Eagles stumble

Wayne Christian's hopes of a Carolina Christian 1-A Conference tournament title were derailed in a 25-22, 25-16, 25-19 loss to Trinity of Durham on Thursday.

Crissi Brogneaux matched a career-high with 16 digs in the semifinal-round match. Kaitlyn Kosuda had five kills and two blocks. Hanna Kaler added 10 assists, four kills and a block.

The Eagles fell to 21-6 overall.

Cougars halted

Carolina 1-A Conference foe Ayden-Grifton spoiled Goldsboro High School's senior night with a 25-22, 25-18, 25-22 victory on Wednesday.

Natalya Dungee, Goldsboro's lone senior, led the team with 10 kills. Anastazja Harris added four aces in the defeat.

Goldsboro (1-18 overall, 0-10 CC) returns to action Monday against North Duplin in the Carolina 1-A Conference tournament quarterfinals at Calypso.

JV football

* North Lenoir d. Southern Wayne 13-7, OT -- North Lenoir scored on a short touchdown run after stopping Southern Wayne on the first possession of overtime. The Hawks took the game's opening kickoff and drove for a score. The Saints tied the game at 7-7 with a touchdown on the opening possession of the second half. Southern Wayne (2-5 overall, 0-2 ECC) entertains South Johnston next Thursday.

JV sports

* Volleyball: North Duplin d. Spring Creek 25-16, 25-7 -- Alonna Pate contributed six kills and five aces for the Rebels. Ansley Hill supplied four assists, three aces and two kills.

* Volleyball: Ayden-Grifton d. Goldsboro 25-21, 25-21 -- The Cougars fell to 2-14 overall (1-9 CC) on the season.

Middle schools

* Football: Grantham d. Spring Creek 24-0 -- Xavier Nobles scored on a 35-yard touchdown run and Rahliek Butler hauled in a 30-yard touchdown pass. Rontrell James added a 10-yard touchdown run and Butler also had a tackle for a safety. Grantham (2-3, 2-0 Div. II) plays host to Brogden next Thursday.

* Volleyball: Norwayne d. Dillard 25-5, 25-12, 25-21 -- Norwayne (8-1, 4-0 Div. I) is the guest of Greenwood on Monday.

* Volleyball: Rosewood d. Brogden 25-9, 25-15, 25-19 -- Rosewood (10-1, 5-0 Div. II) travels to Eastern Wayne on Monday.

* Volleyball: Spring Creek d. Grantham 25-17, 25-19, 10-25, 25-19, 8-15 -- Sarah Ford and Dianna Carreno each recorded three aces for the Gators. Stormy Westbrook added two aces.

* Soccer: Brogden d. Rosewood 2-0 -- Miguel Mozquedo found the back of the net for Brogden. Brogden (6-4 overall) entertains Norwayne on Monday.
