PRINCETON -- Rosewood's Nick Britt won his fourth consecutive Carolina 1-A Conference men's cross country meet in 18 minutes and 39 seconds on Wednesday at Princeton High School.

North Duplin earned team honors with 30 points.

Princeton, led by Will Toler (19:12) finished second in the team standings with 59 points, while Rosewood ran third with 78. Goldsboro (83) and Spring Creek (113) completed the team standings.

On the girls' side, Princeton's Hattie Dougherty who paced the field 23:52. Rosewood's Holly Heath (25:12) and Jennifer Page (25:21) finished second and third, respectively.

Spring Creek's Savannah Egleston (26:13) and Goldsboro's Mikayla Huff (26:17) rounded out the top five.

Rosewood edged Princeton 23-34 for the team win.

The teams conclude their regular season with the conference championship meet next Wednesday at Cliffs of the Neuse State Park.

Aycock takes 2nd

ERWIN -- Charles B. Aycock's men's and women's cross country teams each recorded a second-place finish, while county rival Southern Wayne took third during an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference tri-meet hosted by Triton on Tuesday.

The Golden Falcons' Nathan Jones posted a third-place time of 19:55 on the men's side. Teammate Elliot Gonzo placed fifth in 21:12. Alexander Rodgers (22:03), Austin Walker (22:28) and Jose Estrada (22:57) completed Aycock's scoring.

Cole Byrd (21:14) and Trevor Morgan (21:44) paced the Saints' with sixth- and seventh-place efforts, respectively.

On the girls' side, Aycock's Caroline Schlaeppi ended up fifth overall in 25:27. Kendra Speight claimed sixth in 25:40. Teammates Jessica Kyer, Taylor Allen and Courtney McGowan crossed the line ninth through 11th, respectively.

Kanesha Jones emerged Southern Wayne's top runner in 30:13, which was good enough for 16th.

Volleyball

Chargers halted

Wayne Country Day never got its offense on track in a 25-14, 25-10, 25-20, non-conference loss to North Johnston on Wednesday afternoon.

The Chargers were led by Kim Martell's four kills and four digs. Hannah Pearson also tallied four kills. Teammate Sarah Crooks delivered one ace.

Wayne Country Day (8-9 overall) entertain Waccamaw Academy on Monday.

Golf

Walnut Creek LGA

KINSTON -- Jewel Ivey claimed low gross in first flight play during an Eastern Ladies League match contested at Falling Creek Country Club.

Mary Ann Sutton won low putts in third flight, while Evelyn Rose captured low putts in fifth flight. Dot Julian took first low net in fifth flight.

Gaye Bryant emerged the play-of-the-day winner during weekly tournament action on the Walnut Creek CC links. Beverly Ives seized first low gross, while Rose and Nancy Satterfield shared second low gross.

Sutton had first low net. Linda Cannon had second low net. Julian and Novella Zambelli tied for low putts.

JV sports

* Soccer: C.B. Aycock 2, Eastern Wayne 2 -- Billy Leggett and Josiah Laser each scored one goal for the Golden Falcons. C.B. Aycock improved to 4-3-1 overall.
