MOC takes two from St. Andrews

MOUNT OLIVE -- Tia Rose punched in two goals as Mount Olive College throttled in-state rival St. Andrews 4-0 in a Conference Carolinas women's soccer match Tuesday evening.

Felicia Dracz and Sam Weiss also scored for the Trojans, who registered their highest-scoring output of the season. Jen Floyd and Sydney Freilinghausen each logged two assists during the victory.

MOC keepers Lyndsey McIntyre and Jenn Sastre combined for the team's fourth shutout of the season.

Rose converted goals in the 18th and 53rd minutes, and Dracz got on the board in the 58th minute. Weiss concluded the Trojans' offensive effort in the 85th minute off Rebecca Hecke's assist.

The Trojans (5-6-2 overall, 3-2-1 CC) travel to Queens on Saturday.

Trojan men prevail

MOUNT OLIVE -- Scott Mitchell supplied two goals and an assist as Mount Olive College dumped St. Andrews 3-1 on the Carolinas Conference men's soccer scene Tuesday evening.

Matt Cargile delivered one goal and two assists for the Trojans, who snapped a four-game losing streak.

Zac Scott recorded five saves for MOC.

Mitchell broke the scoreless tie in the 26th minute off Cargile's assist. Less than five minutes into the second half, Mitchell scored again via the teamwork of Murilo Pelegrino and Cargile.

Mitchell repaid Cargile with a goal-scoring assist in the 54th minute.

Mount Olive (5-6-0 overall, 2-3-0 CC) is the guest of Queens on Saturday.

Easley selected

MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive College senior Kendrick Easley has been tabbed a second-team, preseason Division II All-America men's basketball candidate by The Sporting News.

The reigning Conference Carolinas player of the year, Easley has earned preseason A-A recognition each of the past three seasons. The 6-foot-1 guard ranked among the nation's leaders in points per game (21.2), free throw shooting percentage (84.9) and 3-point field goal percentage (43.6) a year ago.

Easley scored 593 points, the fourth-highest, single-season total in Trojan men's basketball history. The sharp-shooting guard has 1,577 career points.

Mount Olive opens its 2009-10 campaign Nov. 16 at Lenoir-Rhyne. The Trojans play host to the 44th annual Pickle Classic five days later at Kornegay Arena.

Urquiola fares well

CALABASH Valentina Urquiola tied for 20th out of 71 golfers during the Myrtle Beach Women's Golf Intercollegiate, hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne College.

Urquiola carded a 36-hole total of 159 on the Meadowlands Golf Club links. Teammate Tegan Skirpstas tied for the seventh-lowest, second-round score (77) and ended the two-day event 29th overall at 165.

Lindsay Becker tied for 61st overall at 186.

The Trojans didn't have enough players to field a team score.
