PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock capped its Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference women's tennis campaign with an 8-1 conquest of county rival Southern Wayne on Thursday afternoon.

The Golden Falcons (12-7 overall, 8-2 ECC) secured the league's No. 2 seed for the N.C. High School Athletic Association dual-team playoffs, which begin Oct. 20. Aycock has qualified every year for the postseason since the NCHSAA adopted the dual-team format in 1990.

Hollie Baker, Ashley Howell, Abbey Strickland, Harlie Howard and Nicole Kessler each collected a singles point for the Golden Falcons. Strickland and Kessler each lost just one game in their respective matches, while Baker logged a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Morgan Roberts at the No. 1 slot.

Mollianne Kennedy earned the Saints' lone singles point with a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Amanda Farmer at No. 6.

Baker-Howell, Strickland-Katie Gurley and Kessler-Farmer each triumphed on the doubles scene.

Southern Wayne (9-9) finished 4-6 in the league.

C.B. Aycock concludes regular-season play Monday at state-ranked Greene Central. The Golden Falcons and Saints will participate in the season-ending ECC tournament, which begins Wednesday at the Snow Hill Tennis Complex.
