Donald Gray Collins, Sr., 78, Pikeville, passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Donald was born Feb. 11, 1940, in Wayne County to the late Barney and Elizabeth Jones Collins. He was married to the late Willie Mae Whaley Collins.
Donald was retired from Cherry Hospital and proudly served his country in the United States Army.
He was a member of Pleasant Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church. Donald was the kind of man who was loyal to his family, who took great pride in caring and providing for them.
The family will receive friends Friday, August 3, at Seymour Funeral Home from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a service at 11 a.m. to celebrate Donald’s life in the chapel, with his pastor, the Rev. Barry Stallings officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
At other times, the family will be at the home of his son, Don Collins Jr., 300 Labonte Drive, Pikeville.
Donald is survived by his sons, Don Collins Jr. and wife, Melanie, of Pikeville and Rusty Collins and wife, Toi, of Lexington, Ky.; granddaughter, Emmie Collins; sisters, Ann Griffin, of Princeton and Faye Braswell, of Princeton; and brothers, Norman Collins, of Goldsboro and Billy Collins, of Missouri.
Donald’s family would like to acknowledge the staff of Kitty Askins Hospice Center, as well as the nurses and physicians at Wayne UNC HealthCare, who had a profound impact on the quality of Donald’s life in recent days. May God bless each of you.
