RAY GUNDERSON

Mary Elizabeth “Ray” Gunderson, 89, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 14, 2018, at her home while surrounded by her family.
Ray was born in Scotland Aug. 14, 1928, to the late James and Mary Elizabeth Bell Stirling Murdoch. She was married for 55 years to retired United States Air Force Col. Lindy Gunderson.
Ray will be remembered as a faithful officer’s wife, who provided a wonderful home for Lindy and their children.
Lindy preceded her in death Feb. 16, 2005. '
For more than 25 years, Ray volunteered at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base with the American Red Cross.
She was an avid bridge player, and was a member of the Goldsboro Duplicate Bridge Club.
Ray leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love and support for the people she cared about. Her enthusiasm and charm will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
A service to celebrate Ray’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2018, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
Ray is survived by her son, Ed Gunderson of Colonial Beach, Va..; her daughters, Ann Kidd and husband, Don, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Brenda G. Upchurch and husband, B.K., of Wallace; grandchildren, Ryan Gunderson, Scott Gunderson, Lindy Gunderson, Eric Kidd, Courtney Kidd, Mary Beth Mortell, Brooke Morawski and Taylor Morawski; and great-grandchildren, Rylee Kidd, Kaley Gunderson and Emily Gunderson.
She is also survived by her brother, Tommy Murdoch of Larbert, Scotland, and sister, Jean Hunter of Falkirk, Scotland.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given in Ray’s memory to the Lindy Gunderson Scholarship for the Goldsboro Rotary Club, P.O. Box 212, Goldsboro, N.C., 27533.
