April 24, 1947-May 22, 2018

"Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord." I Corinthians 15:58

Nagareyama, Japan

Martha Lorraine Corhran, formerly of Goldsboro, was received into the arms of her Savior Tuesday, May 22, following a length battle with ALS.

Martha was born in Milford, Del., to George P. and Lila C. Cochran.

She was raised in Springfield, Pa.

Martha graduated from Delaware County Christian School in 1965 and Bob Jones University in 1969. While a student at Bob Jones, Martha felt the call of God into missions.

Having graduated with her degree in elementary education, Martha accepted a position as a third-grade teacher at Goldsboro Christian School in 1969, and in 1971, she left the comforts of home and family and journeyed to Japan, where she was associated with Narashino Baptist Church and Gospel Fellowship Association for 47 years.

Martha was an outstanding musician and a master of the organ and piano.

Completely devoting herself to the service of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Martha used her many talents to spread the good news of the gospel throughout Japan and around the world. Her background in teaching enabled her to teach the Bible, English and music to women and children.

Martha is survived by her brother, George L. Cochran of Pottstown, Pa.; sister, Rebecca C. Moore and husband, David, of Goldsboro; three beloved nieces, Megan Michlik of New York, N.Y., Rachel Davis and husband, Jonathan, and daughter, Emma, of Hampton, Va., and Cybele Cochran and husband, Jimmy Page of Frankfort, Germany; and nephew, James Phipps and wife, Diana, of East Bend, N.C.

Jean McCoy of New York, N.Y., had been Martha's closest friend from the time they met in sixth grade.

Because of Martha's outreach and extensive travels, there are hundreds of people around the world who regard her as their teacher, mentor, role model and friend.

The family wishes to thank the members of Narashino Baptist Church for their great love for Martha through all of these years, and for the gracious care and compassion that a they extended to her during the time of her illness.

Martha's local memorial services will be held Tuesday, May 29, at 7 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 1715 Royall Ave. in Goldsboro.

Because of her great love for the people of Japan, Martha chose to remain there until she was called home.

A memorial service to honor her will be held at Narashino Baptist Church Monday, May 28, and her funeral will take place Tuesday, May 29.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gospel Fellowship Association, 1809 Wade Hampton Blvd., Suite 110, Greenville, S.C., or ALS Association, 1275 K St. Northwest, Suite 250, Washington, D.C., 20005.

Truly our hearts are broken over the loss of our beloved Martha; however, we know that her suffering is over, and she is rejoicing in heaven with her Savior and with those loved ones who, in Christ, have gone on before her.

"While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are tempered which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal." II Corinthians 4:18.
