WILLIAM ROBERT 'BILL' ALLEN JR.

William Robert "Bill" Allen Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Sunday, April 29, 2018.

Bill was born to W.R. Allen Sr. and Hazel Hill Allen Sept. 28, 1934, and grew up in Goldsboro, N.C.

Bill served his country in the United States Army for two years.

Afterward, he returned to Goldsboro, and married Marie Sauls.

After working with the US Postal Service briefly in Goldsboro, Bill secured a job with First Citizens Bank and moved to Raleigh, where he and Marie made a lifetime of memories together.

Bill began his 29-year-long career with First Citizens Bank in the data processing department, retiring in 1992 as vice president of electronic banking.

Afterward, Bill thoroughly enjoyed his new assignment as Granddaddy Bill to his two grandsons.

He was an active member of Crossroads Fellowship, his most notable assignment serving at the Wednesday night church suppers, where he was affectionately called “Mr. Tea.”

Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marie Sauls Allen; daughter, Kim Allen Milian (Chuck) of Raleigh; son, Vance Allen (Jana) of Goldsboro; grandsons, Joshua Milian (Natalie) of Richmond, Va., and Caleb Milian (Emma Grace) of Augusta, Ga.; brothers, Albert G. Allen (Frances) of Goldsboro and Dwight Allen (Robin) of Raleigh; nephews, Robert Allen (Kathy) of Wilmington, Richard Allen (deceased), Britton Allen (Michelle) of Raleigh and Brady Allen (Angela) of Raleigh; and niece, Susie Allen Daniels (Jeff) of Goldsboro.

The family offers heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Transitions LifeCare (Hospice Home and Palliative Care) for its outstanding, loving caregiving.

A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Crossroads Fellowship, 2721 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2018, with visitation preceding the service at the same location from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park on Glenwood Avenue.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Crossroads Fellowship or Transitions LifeCare.
