MRS. HELEN THOMPSON COLEY

March 25, 1927-April 7, 2018

Mrs. Helen Thompson Coley, Fremont, N.C., departed this life for her heavenly home April 7, 2018, in the comforts of her home and in the care of her daughters.

Mrs. Coley was born to Martha Dew Thompson and Walter A. Thompson in Lucama, N.C., March 25, 1927.

After the death of Martha, her stepmother, Vella Wells Thompson, would nurture her into adulthood.

She accepted Christ at an early age, joining First Missionary Baptist Church of Lucama.

In later years, she was a devoted and enthusiastic member of the usher board.

She graduated from Williamston (Springfield) High School in Wilson County. She also received a diploma in beauty culture.

She was employed as a machine operator at Fremont Manufacturing Co., March One and Johnson Manufacturing Co. until her retirement at age 72.

She loved gardening and preparing good country meals for her children and grandchildren.

Her skills and love for sewing were a blessing to her family and throughout the community.

Helen Coley was preceded in death by her mother, Martha Thompson; father, Walter Thompson; stepmother, Vella Thompson; sister, Cora T. Hinnant; son, elder Coy B. Coley; and brother, Jesse Thompson.

She is survived by three children, Walter L. Thompson of Yakima, Wash., Linda C. Belvin (Otha) of Winterville, N.C., and Judy Coley of Temple Hills, Md.

She was a devoted grandmother to 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She also leaves to cherish her memories a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.

Her life and service to God and mankind will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church of Lucama. Her mortal frame will be laid to rest in Resthaven Cemetery of Wilson.

The family will receive will friends at the church one hour prior the service. At other times, the family will receive friends at 809 Vance St., Fremont, where it will assemble in preparation for the funeral procession.
