Barbara Jean Strickland Hicks, 80, passed away Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, at Wayne UNC Hospital surrounded by her family.
Barbara was born in Wilson County, N.C., Oct. 20, 1937, to the late Hattie Blanche Strickland and William Larry Strickland.
She was a homemaker, and enjoyed taking care of her family.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a service to celebrate Barbara's life at 2 p.m. in the chapel, with the Rev. Jonathan Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Pikeville Cemetery.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Donna Hicks Cockrell and husband, David, of Rocky Mount, Linda Hicks Coston and husband, James, of Pikeville and Kathy Hicks Bennett and husband, David, of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Joshua Sullivan, Jeremy Sullivan, Justin Coston, Nicholas Coston and Sarah Bennett; stepgranddaughters, Sarah and Katie Cockrell; a great-grandson, Bryson Sullivan; and a special first cousin, Dixie of Wilson.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her brother, Elton Strickland, and the father of her children, Donald Hicks.
