LINDA P. GURGANUS

April 8, 1949-Dec. 30, 2017

Linda Gail Pearsall Gurganus, 68, Goldsboro, completed her journey home on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, to the welcoming words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant," while surrounded by her family at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Linda was born in Wayne County on April 8, 1949, to the late John Henry Pearsall and Mattie Ray Dail Pearsall. She enjoyed the opportunities given to her by helping to impact the lives of so many students while serving in the office at Eastern Wayne Middle School for over 30 years. Linda was a longtime member of Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church in Goldsboro. She was devoted to her church, served as the Ladies Auxiliary President, Sunday school class president, and was involved in many other activities where she utilized her gifts and abilities to share the love of God.

We will remember her most for her embodiment of gentleness, grace, and selflessness, and her compelling inspiration to be the same. Linda had a sparkle in her eye and a heartwarming, generous spirit, always making everyone feel at home. Her faith, strength and courage during challenging times inspired all who knew her. Linda's fight with cancer caused her to get involved with Relay for Life and through this experience she gained a large extended circle of family and friends and they were all very special to her. Linda's sense of humor, unconditional love and deeply caring nature graced us all. She was the rock of her family, her husband, children and grandchildren knew that she loved them with all her heart and truly was a blessing to them. She will be missed, but greatly remembered.

A service to celebrate Linda's life will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at Woods Grove P.F.W.B. Church with her pastor, the Rev. Barry Teague, officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday in the hour prior to the service and immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. At other times, the family will be at the home of Angie and Jeremy Hill, 505 Morgan Trace Lane, Goldsboro. Interment will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday in Wayne Memorial Park. For those attending the services for Linda, the family would like for you to wear something pink to show your love and for her fight against cancer.

Linda is survived by her husband of over 50 years, Ricky Gurganus; daughters, Angie Hill and husband, Jeremy, and Debra Rowe; grandchildren, Keli Gerken, Kati Gerken, Tyler Rowe, Kourtni Gerken, and Savannah Hill. She is also survived by her sister, Eleanor Lorene Pearsall McCullen; brother, John Doyle Pearsall; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Darlene and Anthony Massey; and several nieces and nephews she loved very much.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Cameron John Gerken; sister, Jennie B. Pearsall Moore; brother, Lloyd Eugene Pearsall; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Madeline and Frank Gurganus.

Linda's family would like to acknowledge the 4th floor staff of Wayne UNC Health Care, as well as the staff of Kitty Askins Hospice Center who had a profound impact on the quality of Linda's life in recent months. Special thanks also goes to Linda's primary care physician, Dr. Samer S. Kasbari, and his nurses; together they demonstrated what constitutes excellent medical care.

"For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." -- II Timothy 4:6-8
