JOHN 'JOE' JOSEPH ZABRISKIE

John Joseph Zabriskie, 72, of Goldsboro, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, at 3 a.m. at Duke Medical Center, surrounded by all his family who loved and adored him.

Born in Nash County, he was the son of the late Margaret Baines Pierce and John Jack Zabriskie. Joe graduated from Goldsboro High School in June 1965 and married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Earp, in September 1965. In 1966, he went into the United States Army and served in the intelligence field. Joe has served as former deacon and Sunday School superintendent in the Church of God of Prophecy for many years. Joe loved people and loved to make them laugh in any way he could. With his cheerful character, he would always leave you with a smile. Joe was employed with Epes Transport for 17 years and was OTR Driver before retirement in 2012. Joe is presently a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Goldsboro. He cherished and enjoyed so many friendships that had made such an impression on his heart.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 52 years is a son, John Michael Zabriskie and wife, Teri Havelka Zabriskie, of Greenville, N.C.; daughter, Kimberly Zabriskie Herring and husband, Mark Camon Herring, of Seven Springs, N.C.; four grandchildren, Ashley Hudson, Chase Zabriskie and wife, Caroline Hasty Zabriskie, Joshua Zabriskie and Sierra Herring; and two great-granddaughters, Makayla and Zaylie Casey.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 22, at 7 p.m. at The First PH Church, Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, and burial service will be on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.
