George Norwood Howell, 92, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, surrounded by his family.

Born to the late Jarvis and Anna Ham Howell, Mr. Howell was a native of Wayne County. He attended Rosewood High School.

He was a World War II veteran where he served in the U.S. Army, 289th infantry. While in service, he received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, among other honors. He was proud to talk about his time in the Army, including many stories about chauffeuring Gen. George Patton around. Following his military career, he was employed by J.M. Edgerton & Co. as a mechanic. He then became a farmer where he eventually retired. George was a hard-working man, this was the theme of his life; he lived to work. He was a member of Westwood United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held at Seymour Funeral Home on Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, from 6-8 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at 10 a.m.

Mr. Howell is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Lowrise Howell. He is survived by his two daughters, Cheryl Davis (Rick) of Beaufort, N.C., and Vanessa May; as well as two sons, Bruce Howell (Vickie) and Mike "Peanut" Howell (Thlanda) of Rosewood. He is also survived by one stepdaughter, Mary Worrell (Paul); and one stepson, Al Thompson (Rosa). Mr. Howell is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Todd Hood (Katie), Chad Howell (Heather), Brandon Hood (Katie), LeAnne Howell, Matthew Worrell (Ladonna), Patrick Thompson, Crystal Ellis (David), Alan Hines, Linzy Howell, Kyle Shelton, and Sidney King (Christopher). Mr. Howell is also survived by his two sisters, Dorothy Ham and Mattie Underwood; and one brother, Floyd Howell; along with eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, his first wife, Carolyn Lancaster Howell; brothers, Jarvis B. Howell, Bobby Howell and Lloyd Howell; and infant twin sisters preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a stepson, Elwood (Eddie) Thompson.
