NELL T. PALMER

Nell Brown Thompson Palmer, 66, of Charlotte, passed away Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care Center following a brief illness.

Mrs. Palmer was born on Jan. 23, 1951, in Wayne County, N.C., to the late E.H. "Jack" Thompson and Ludie Brown Thompson. She graduated from Methodist College (now Methodist University) in Fayetteville, N.C., in 1973, and taught school in Fayetteville for one year, then went to work at Methodist University as an admissions counselor. She later became director of admissions, then director of continuing education before moving to Charlotte.

Nell began her career with Carolinas Healthcare System in 1997, joining the organization in support of Information Services, recruiting and preparing for the Y2K conversion. Her success continued with many projects in support of the growing organization. Her work evolved to Executive Search where she was instrumental in recruiting health care executives in Charlotte and across North and South Carolina, many of whom became close personal friends. She retired in 2016 with almost 20 years of service. She was president of the Charlotte Camillia Society and was a member of the Waldensian Presbyterian Church in Valdese.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Neil Thompson.

Survivors include her husband, Yates Shuford Palmer of Charlotte; one brother, Rex Thomas and wife, Allison, of Fayette-ville, Ark.; her nephew, Eric Rex Thompson of Tyler, Texas; and her niece, Paige Kemper Thompson of Fayette-ville, Ark.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at Waldensian Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dr. Kevin Frederick officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service in Pioneer Hall at Waldensian Presbyterian Church.
