Virginia Smith Williams, 206 W. James St., Mount Olive, was born Oct. 17, 1930, to parents, Robert F. Smith and Lorena Perry Smith in Mount Olive, N.C. She passed away Nov. 25, 2017, at home.
Virginia attended Mount Olive Elementary School and Mount Olive High School, and graduated cum laude from Wake Forest College in 1952.
She attended graduate school, earning a degree in exceptional children's education.
She taught in Wayne and Duplin county schools for 29 years, retiring in 1991.
She and her husband, Clyde A. Williams, were married in 1952, and resided in Mount Olive all their lives, he being the owner of Clyde Williams Chevrolet Inc. until he sold the business in 1984.
Virginia was very active in Mount Olive Presbyterian Church all her life, teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir and serving on many committees.
She was a member of and officer of the Twentieth Century Club (literary), Mount Olive Travel Club, the Carolina Patriots DAR Chapter, the Red Hat Club, Southern Wayne Country Club and Goldsboro Country Club.
Her favorite charity was Duke Cancer Center, having survived three forms of cancer with their treatment.
She is survived by her daughters, Molly W. Holler of Goldsboro, N.C., and Laura W. Fairman and husband, Donald C. Fairman, of Winter Park, Fla.; grandchildren, Nicholas W. Fairman and Katheryn B. Fairman of Florida.; and nephews, Frank Wilson and Matt Wilson.

The life of Mrs. Virginia Williams will be celebrated in a graveside service to be held Wednesday, Nov. 29, at 2 p.m. in Maplewood Cemetery of Mount Olive. Her pastor, the Rev. Steven Wicks, will officiate.
