LORETTA M. BUTTS

Feb. 1, 1939-Nov. 25, 2017

Loretta Mewborn Butts, 78, Goldsboro was called to her heavenly home and reunited with her family Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017.

Loretta was born Feb. 1, 1939, in Greene County to the late Paul Hodges Mewborn and Lillie Mae Herring Mewborn.

In addition to her parents, Loretta's husband, George Benton Butts Jr., and son, Ricky Dean Butts, preceded her in death.

Loretta's larger-than-life personality endeared her to everyone she came in contact with. Her energy, beautiful smile and childlike spirit were infectious.

Always organized and dressed immaculately, she was the center of attention in any room she entered. Her wonderful sense of humor, her gift of spinning a good story and her mischievous pranks captivated everyone who crossed her path.

A godly woman, Loretta worshiped her Lord at Jason Presbyterian Church.

Her heart for service and desire to help was most evident with the North Lenoir High School drama department and Faith Christian Academy. Her servant's heart always allowed Loretta to be available for others.

Always on the go, Loretta loved to travel.

Her family has many fond memories of times gathered around the pool.

Christmas was Loretta's favorite time of the year, and she rejoices in the great reunion she is experiencing in heaven.

A graveside service to celebrate and honor Loretta's life will be held Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, at 4 p.m. from Mewborn Cemetery.

Loretta is survived by four siblings, Gary Mewborn and wife, Faye, Paulette Morgan, Claudia Rose and husband, Joe, and Tim Mewborn; two great-nephews Loretta thought of as her own, Hunter and Noah Reese; sister-in-law, Rose Butts Champlain; along with many special nieces and nephews.

Loretta's family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jason Presbyterian Church.
