RICHARD R. GRADY

May 12, 1927-Nov. 25, 2017

Richard R. Grady, 90, Seven Springs, passed away Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017.

Richard was born May 12, 1927, in Seven Springs to the late Ralph Grady and Zilphia Ann Smith Grady.

A lifelong farmer, Richard's life revolved around tobacco season. From planting to priming, Richard enjoyed the sounds of the wind blowing through the tobacco leaves and the gentle aroma of curing tobacco. He found great pleasure in time spent at the tobacco warehouse with fellow farmers and friends.

Richard was a man who enjoyed the simple things in life, and found great peace in watching and tending to the cows.

Richard's boys and grandchildren have many fond memories from the earlier years of having horses and horseback riding on the farm.

Always a true southern gentleman, Richard loved meeting new people, and was quick to strike up conversation. His genuine concern and compassion for others led him to live a life of service to his fellow man.

With a servant's heart, Richard was an advocate of the citizens of Wayne County as county commissioner for 12 years.

He was then elected to serve in the North Carolina House of Representatives.

Richard was a longtime member of Tri-County EMC board.

He was one of the early members of Seven Springs Volunteer Fire Department.

Always thankful for God's many blessings, he worshiped his Lord at Seven Springs United Methodist Church.

A service to celebrate and honor Richard's life will be held Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2017, at 11 a.m. from Seven Springs United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Richard is survived by two sons, Richard Dwight Grady and Mack Lyndon Grady; six grandchildren, Matthew Brown Grady, Jonathan Ralph Horner Grady and wife, Brittany, William Jesse Grady, Virginia Lee Grady, Rebecca Lynn Grady and Caroline Zilphia Grady; and one great-grandchild.

A sister, Mary Lou Grady Holmes, preceded Richard in death.

Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home.
