PENNIE JONES HERRING

Pennie Jones Herring, 96, Goldsboro, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017, surrounded by her family at Kitty Askins Hospice Center after a full, dynamic life.

She was born in Wayne County June 23, 1921, one of seven children, to the late Matthew Frank Jones and Nona Williams Jones.

She was married to the love of her life, Boyd Winston Herring, who preceded her in death July 19, 1980.

Pennie retired from Sears and Roebuck in Goldsboro after many years of service, and was a former member of the American Business Women's Association.

Her life was filled with humility, kindness and a love for others that she displayed every time she smiled.

Pennie dedicated her life to serving her family unselfishly and to serving her Lord.

She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, where she had an extended circle of friends as a member of St. Luke Quilters.

Pennie was always on call to give an encouraging word or helping hand.

She enjoyed life, especially her life with her husband, daughters and grandchildren.

A service to celebrate Pennie's life will be held by the graveside Monday, Nov. 6, 2017, at 1 p.m. in Wayne Memorial Park, with the Rev. Adam Witter officiating.

The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m. at Pennie's home in Goldsboro and Monday following the graveside service at the cemetery.

Pennie is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Herring Miars of Wilmington and Patricia Herring Umstead of Goldsboro, and her grandchildren, Elizabeth Boyd Miars, William Thomas Miars IV and Charles Allan Umstead Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Pennie's memory to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
