Derek Matthew Smith, 27, LaGrange, passed away Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017.
Derek was born Oct. 3, 1989, to Durwood Edward Smith and Donna Bartlett Smith.
Derek graduated from Eastern Wayne High School.
With Derek, everything was about peace, love and kindness. Always mannerly and never selfish, Derek was a gentle, giving soul.
He truly loved the music of The Grateful Dead.
A mama's boy at heart, he was excited about his upcoming concert trip in November to Charlotte with his mother. Music brought him much happiness, and he could quote the lyrics to most songs by The Grateful Dead.
Derek enjoyed chatting in online forums and especially those pertaining to his favorite band.
A good game of pool always brought a smile to his face.
His light and memory shine bright in our hearts.
A private graveside service was held Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, at 2 p.m. from Fairview Cemetery, with pastor John Wiggins officiating.
In addition to his parents, Derek is survived by a stepsister, Renee Kennedy, along with a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
