HILDA  T. CULVERWELL

Hilda Toler Culverwell, 84, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, at her home.

Hilda was born in Craven County, N.C., Feb. 20, 1933, to the late Wilton Braxton Toler and Nora Ellis Toler.

She was married to Joseph Mason Culverwell, who preceded her in death in 1984.

She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Hilda was an active member of the Retired Officers' Wives Club, Goldsboro Garden Club and Woman's Club.

She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Goldsboro.

Hilda was a pet lover and an avid gardener, and she loved to read.

She was an intelligent and curious homemaker, teaching herself everything from refinishing furniture to fine needlework.

She was a beloved matriarch to her girls, and set a fine example for them and her grandchildren.

Hilda is survived by her daughters, Susan Culverwell Thomson of Sydney, Australia, and Robin Culverwell Greer of Hockessin, Del.; grandsons, Callum Thomson and wife, Juliette, Lawrence Thomson and Muir Thomson and wife, Caroline, all of Australia and (Joseph) Elliot Greer of Hockessin, Del.; great-grandchildren, Grace Thomson, Mason Thomson and Sasha Thomson; and her sister, Azalea Thompson of Raleigh.

In addition to her husband and parents, Hilda was preceded in death by her son, Douglas Mason Culverwell, and sister, LaVerne Yelverton.
