CARRIE R. HOWARD

April 30, 1927-Aug. 21, 2017

Carrie Elizabeth Rouse Outlaw Howard, 90, LaGrange, quietly and peacefully passed away Monday, Aug. 21, 2017.

Carrie was born April 30, 1927, in Lenoir County to the late Forrest Rouse Sr. and Daisy Irene Williams Rouse.

Her husbands, James Romie Outlaw and Adolph "Bud" Howard Jr., preceded her in death.

Carrie was a graduate of Meredith College.

Following graduation, Carrie taught school for several years before devoting herself to motherhood.

Carrie later went to work, and retired from Caswell Center, where she worked as a caregiver.

Carrie's infectious smile and sense of humor brightened every room she entered. Her smile and gentle hugs allowed her to connect with everyone she came in contact with.

She loved working in her yard, bird watching and admiring God's wonderful creations.

A lady of strong faith, Carrie worshiped her Lord at Daly's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. Her faith in God and concern for others was exhibited in all she did.

Carrie's family has many fond memories of times gathered around her table enjoying good food and fellowship. No one fixed a better pig picking cake.

Life for Carrie revolved around her family, church and community. Her life and positive attitude set an example for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that will lead them all their lives.

A service to celebrate and honor Carrie's life will be held Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, at 6 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home. A committal service will follow Thursday at 11 a.m. from Outlaw-Dupree Family Cemetery.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Carrie was preceded in death by three brothers, Ernie Rouse, Weldon Rouse and Marvin Rouse.
