DOUGLAS O'BRIEN SMITH

Douglas O'Brien Smith, 78, Goldsboro, left this world to be with Jesus early Sunday morning surrounded by his family at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Doug was a beloved husband, father, grandfather brother and friend, whose love for life and others was apparent to all who met him.

Doug was born in Wayne County Dec. 26, 1938, to the late Robert and Edna Butts Smith.

He had worked with Jennings Transmission in Goldsboro.

Doug loved Ray of Hope Church, and was a dedicated and faithful member.

He had a large extended circle of family and friends, and they were all very special to him.

Doug loved fishing, baseball and Carolina basketball, but most of all, his family. He will be missed, but greatly remembered.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 21, 2017, from 6 to 7 p.m. and following the service at the Ray of Hope Church, with a service to celebrate Doug's life at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary, with the Rev. Tony Kopanski and the Rev. Tom Dorman officiating. Interment will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park.

Doug is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mae Evans Smith; sons, Danny D. Smith, Stan Smith and wife, Donna, and Tim Smith; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his brothers, Jennings Smith and Colin Smith and wife, Freida; sister, JoAnne S. Sauls; and sisters-in-law, Pauline Smith and Delia Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Lee Smith and Reynolds Smith.
