GEORGE MONROE MCINTOSH

Oct. 20, 1940-June 1, 2017

George Monroe McIntosh, 76, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 1, 2017.

He was born in Pine Ridge, Ky., Oct. 20, 1940, to Theodore "Ted" and Ollie Mae (Combs) McIntosh.

He eloped and married the love of his life and best friend, Ruby Marie Game, in September of 1960 when he met her in Goldsboro, N.C.

George enjoyed a 23-year career in the United States Air Force, where he obtained the rank of chief master sergeant.

The couple was blessed with daughters, Donna Gerald while stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and Rhonda Poplin during their assignment at Homestead Air Force Base.

Upon retirement in 1982, Jim, as he was affectionately called by Ruby, went to work with General Dynamics for five years in Cairo, Egypt. During this time, he took the opportunity to take his girls on an extensive "European Vacation."

In 1988, the family decided it was time to settle down in the Wayne and Johnston county areas. This is where George and Ruby became local business owners.

George's lifelong passion of cars and antiques turned into enjoyable businesses.

His other passion of being a "gentleman farmer" came true in 1989 upon the couple's purchase of a small farm in Princeton, N.C. This is where he spent many lazy afternoons on the porch swing with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He loved to cut grass, cook for his family and tell war stories of his old Kentucky home.

Over the years, he had the love of many dogs and a special pony named Susie.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Roosevelt McIntosh Sr. and wife, Ollie Mae Combs; his in-laws, William Sanders Game Sr. and wife, Emma Blackman Game; sister, Dora Etta Sharp; and brothers-in-law, Bobby Game Sr. and Al Game Sr.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Ruby Game McIntosh; daughter, Donna Gerald and husband, Kevin; daughter, Rhonda Poplin and son-in law, Eddie Poplin; grandchildren, Lauren Mitchell and husband, Stephen, Dallas Holland and special friend, Allan Sparks, Tori Gerald, Trent Poplin and Garrett Poplin; great-grandchildren, Sophia Mitchell, Camden Mitchell and Emma Sparks; brothers, Earl Eugene McIntosh and T.R. McIntosh and wife, Andrea; brother in-law, Jack Game and special friend, Faye Mullen; and sister in-law, Emma Lee Howell.

George was also blessed with many nephews, nieces, lifelong friends and Grace Baptist Church family all whom he loved dearly.

The family will receive friends Monday, June 5, 2017, from noon to 1 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church in Princeton, followed by a service to celebrate George's life at 1 p.m. in the sanctuary, with the Rev. Stuart Coffman presiding. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.
