EDITH SPEIGHT HANCOCK

Edith Speight Hancock, 85, Goldsboro, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2017, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Edith was born in Tarboro, N.C., Dec. 8, 1931, to the late Joseph Lucian Speight and Hazel Harrell Speight.

Her most significant role in life, and what she did best, was being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She had attended United in Christ Church.

A service celebrating Edith's life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2017, in the mausoleum chapel of Wayne Memorial Park, with the Rev. Ira Williford and the Rev. Dock Hobbs officiating.

The family will greet friends Sunday following the service at the cemetery.

Edith is survived by her husband, Roy Hancock; daughter, Becki Hobbs and husband, Scott, of Dudley; son, Jeff Hancock and wife, Jackie, of Pikeville; grandchildren, Brandy Schooler and husband, Keith, Amber Hancock, Eric Crumpler and Chelsea Young; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Schooler, Ari Schooler and Jack Schooler; and her niece, Kim Taylor Walker and husband, Alan, of Wendell.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Wanda Taylor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Edith's memory to the American Cancer Society, 930B Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C., 27834.
