MARY LEE HOWELL HICKMAN

Mary Lee Howell Hickman, of Laurel, Md., transitioned peacefully May 20, 2017.

Mary was born in Goldsboro, N.C., to Vasco Herbert and Adell Gladys Howell whom she loved, honored and respected, who by example, showed her the importance of family.

Her husband, John Vester Hickman, and parents Mr. and Mrs. Vasco Howell, Ernestine H. Chavis, Minnie Pearl Ford Thornton and Bobby G. Howell, all predeceased Mrs. Hickman in death.

Mary is survived by her sisters, Dr. Betty Howell Gray of Charlotte, N.C., and Ina G. Howell of Seattle, Wash.; her aunts, Julia Pate and Elizabeth Ford, both of Goldsboro, and Tempell Howell of Orlando, Fla.; brother-in-law, James C. Chavis of Laurelton, N.Y.; nephews; nieces; friends at Parkview Retirement Homes; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She spent her entire work and retirement lives helping others as a licensed practical nurse.

Mary was always at her best when she was helping others. Mary touched the lives of many with her heartfelt generosity and service.

She always felt that God would take care of any circumstance she could not handle.

Mrs. Hickman's funeral service will be held Thursday, June 1, at Maryland City Baptist Church, 326 Brock Bridge Road, Laurel, Md., 20724.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Barnes Chapel Church Building Fund, 1108 Rosewood Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

Cards and other expressions of sympathy can be mailed to Emmanuel Baptist Church, the Rev. Byron J. Day, senior pastor, 11443 Laurel Bowie Road, Laurel, Md., 20708.
