John David Powell, 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Homegoing service will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Mount Olive First P.H. Church. Interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.
Mr. Powell was born March 7, 1934 to the late James Robert and Madge Sutton Powell.
He was a great husband, father and grandfather and a true born again Christian.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Davis Powell; a son, John David Powell II (Carolyn); daughter, Lovie McKeel (Rev. Eddie); stepsons, Micah S. Sutton and Timothy O. Sutton (Angie); stepdaughters, Sharon J. Sutton and Judy H. Walker; stepson-in-law, Thomas John Connolly Sr., brothers, Allen Curtis "A.C." Powell, Joseph Powell (Margie), Willie Ray Powell (Carolyn) and Dewey Lee Powell (Janet); sisters, Sallie Hodgin (George), Margaret Wells, Sandra Foss (Ronnie) and Doris Cherry; sister-in-law, Mavis Powell; six grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Marilyn Ann Connolly; brother, James Robert Powell Jr.; brother-in-law, Jerry Wells and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Powell.
The family will receive friends today from 3 until 5 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro.
