MICHAEL S. CAYTON

MICHAEL S. CAYTON

March 18, 1962-Jan. 21, 2017

Michael Scott Cayton, 54, won his battle with cancer, leaving behind his mortal body in exchange for eternal life with his Heavenly Father. He passed away at his home on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, surrounded by his family and in the arms of his wife and his faithful companion, Savanna.

Michael was born in Norfolk County, Va., on March 18, 1962, to Jean H. Johnson of Goldsboro and the late Thelbert Allen Cayton. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for four years as a corporal and was awarded two Good Conduct Medals for his service. Michael was a strong believer of the Semper Fi Marine Corps motto, which means “always faithful,” and he would always share this with his mother while serving. Following his military career, Michael worked as an electronic technician with Balfour Beatty in Goldsboro.

Michael was a warrior and he fought for his life until the last minute. He lost his life after a battle with a brain tumor. Michael accepted his illness with grace, dignity and humbleness and used his condition to lift others. He was a very strong believer in Jesus Christ and felt that nothing was impossible when you place your trust in God. His faith gave him the courage to face anything in life.

A service celebrating Michael’s life will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017, at The First Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Bill Rose, the Rev. Terry Gainer and the Rev. Danny Johnson officiating. Family will greet friends immediately following the service in the narthex of the church. Interment will be on Wednesday at the Eastern Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery with military honors.

In addition to his mother, Michael is survived by his wife, Jacquie M. Cayton; brothers, James “Jimmy” Allen Cayton and wife, Nancy, and David Leon Cayton and wife, Connie; sister, Lisa Jones; and nieces and nephews, Paige Cayton, Chase Cayton, Abbey Cayton, Alley Cayton, Josh Jones, Kristen Wagner, Amy Landing and Aaron Wilson. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Babbette Spitler, Michael Spitler, and Matthew Reid and their families.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Feed the Children, P.O. Box 36, Oklahoma City, Okla. 73101 or to Cures for the Colors, SMOC, 203 Cox Blvd., Goldsboro, N.C. 27534.

“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” II Timothy 4:6-8
