SALLY J. MERRITT

Jan. 20, 1946-Jan. 20, 2017

Sally Jeanne Woods Merritt, 71, Goldsboro, passed away on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family.

Sally was born in Bay City, Mich., on Jan. 20, 1946, to the late William David Woods and Cecilia Florence Malinowski Woods.

Her life was filled with humility, kindness and a love for others that she displayed every time she smiled. She dedicated her life to serving her family unselfishly and to serving her Lord. She was a member of Harvest Fellowship Church where she used her abilities to share the love of God. Sally was always on call to give an encouraging word or helping hand.

Her most significant role in life and what she did best was being a loving mother and best friend to her family. Sally was also a great caregiver who was always ready to offer a shoulder to cry on and to give a good laugh. She will be fondly remembered by her community for her charitable contribution of Hershey Chocolate Cakes to various organizations.

Sally was a hard-working woman, which was the theme of her life. She lived to serve others. She was the kind of woman who never complained or wanted any recognition. She had worked with Kmart and as a demo team leader with Sam's Club for 17 years.

A service celebrating Sally's life will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Pete Norris officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

Sally is survived by her husband of 50 years, Charles "Chuck" Merritt; son, Brian Christopher Merritt of Pikeville; daughter, Michelle A. Thompson and husband, Charles, of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Matthew T. Thompson and Christopher Allen Thompson; sister, Carole M. Sundquist of Essexville, Mich.; brother, Kenneth W. Woods of Haslett, Mich.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is also survived by her beloved cat, Doodlebug.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Cures for the Colors, SMOC, 203 Cox Blvd., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
