Melvin Artis, 78, 1399 Norwayne School Road, Fremont, died Tuesday at Wake Medical Center, Raleigh.
Funeral was Saturday at noon at First Missionary Baptist Church, 410 S. Goldsboro Street, Fremont. Burial in Hooks Grove Church Cemetery, 290 Hooks Grove Church Road, Pikeville. Viewing was held Saturday at First Missionary Baptist Church.
He was born on Aug. 1, 1938, in Johnston County, to Edward and Gertrude Coley Artis. He is survived by his wife, Bessie Harvey; and four children.
