ETHEL ELKS BARNHILL

Ethel Elks Barnhill, 92, Goldsboro, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family.

Ethel was born in Pitt County Dec. 6, 1924, to the late Walter Leon Elks and Nancy Cutler Elks. She was married to the late William Leslie Barnhill.

Ethel lived a life of dedication to her family and friends and to her community. She served her community many ways as a member of the Wayne County Historical Society and Goldsboro Woman's Club.

She was a longtime member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, where she served in many of its ministries.

A service of remembrance will be held for Ethel Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, at 11 a.m. in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Eugene Carpenter presiding. Interment will be Saturday at 3 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery in Greenville, N.C.

The family will receive friends Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at her home.

Ethel is survived by her son, William Leslie Barnhill Jr. and wife, Kimberly, of Boiling Springs, S.C.; daughter, Nancy Barnhill Seymour and husband, Paul, of Utica, N.Y.; brother, Richard Wayne Elks of Leland; her grandchildren, William Leslie Barnhill III, Christopher David Barnhill, Brooke Ellen Barnhill, Paula Mae Seymour and Jason Case Seymour; and a great-grandson, Oliver Phillip Seymour.

Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be given to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church Altar Guild, 200 N. James St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
