Mary Margaret Kelly Harrison, 78, LaGrange, peacefully passed away to her heavenly reward Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017.

Mary Margaret was born Nov. 23, 1938, to the late Harvey Nathan Kelly and Margaret Wheeler Kelly.

Mary Margaret graduated from East Carolina College with a degree in art.

While at East Carolina, Mary Margaret met the love of her life, Bobby Holton Harrison, and a very special relationship blossomed into a 60-year love affair. The two had been inseparable, and made each other's life complete.

A strong woman of faith, Mary Margaret personified the woman spoken of in Proverbs 31. She worked tirelessly sharing the good news of a relationship with Jesus. Her bright smile, encouraging words and quotes of scripture have brought joy and comfort to many.

Mary Margaret worshiped at Community Baptist Church, where she utilized her gifts of music and love for children to serve her Lord.

Mary Margaret enjoyed a 30-year teaching career in Rocky Mount and Lenoir County public schools. Her passion and love for children served her well in the classroom. Students have many fond memories of her passion for education and the life lessons she instilled.

Creative in all areas of life, Mary Margaret displayed a deep passion for art early in her life. Her love of painting and sketching can be seen in every room of her home. She was a founding member and vital part of LaGrange Arts Council.

Mary Margaret's love of travel and adventure have created many fond memories, especially family summer trips to Maine. Her memory shines brightly in all she came in contact with.

A service to celebrate and honor Mary Margaret's life will be held Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017, at 11 a.m. from Rouse Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jeremy Varner and the Rev. Dean Hightower officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Mary Margaret is survived by her best friend and husband of 58 years, Holton Harrison; son, Nathan Harrison and his companion, Sue Creech; two granddaughters, Scarlette Eve Harrison and Mary Lauren Harrison; great-grandson, Ethan Michael Gray; brother, Harvey Neale Kelly; five nieces and nephews, Harvey, Marilou, Laura, Karen and Sharon; a very special friend thought of as family, Mary Thomas; her caregiver, April Yates; and the Harrison family, who was so special to her.

In addition to her parents, Mary Margaret was preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret Elizabeth Harrison Loos, Jan. 8, 2016.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home.
