A United States Army veteran of World War II, he served in the 106th Infantry Division, and was stationed in Germany.

In past years, he had been employed with Mount Olive Tribune, and in recent years, he was employed by Steve Grady Farms as its official "cow man." Folks from areas far and wide have knowledge of his skills in preparing some mouth-watering pork barbecue.
