IVOR DEANE HARMON

March 31, 1922-Nov. 25, 2016

Ivor Deane Harmon, 94, went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday, Nov. 25, 2016, at Woodard’s Care.

Ivor Deane was born in Hertford County, N.C., to the late Perry Deans and Eula Thurston Peele March 31, 1922.

She was married Dec. 23, 1945, to the love of her life, Dewey Tyson Harmon Jr., who preceded her in death in 1997.

Their home was always full and busy with family and friends whether it was on their farm in Bertie County, the Chowan “River House,” to Kansas, Ohio, Pennsylvania or back to Eastern North Carolina.

Ivor Deane had a gift of making any house a home. No matter where she called “home,” there was always a table full of food, the entertaining of many friends and a house full of love.

Ivor Deane lived with Paulette and Phillip Scarboro from 1996 until 2015 when she moved to Woodard’s Care.

Ivor Deane was known for her love of people, and she never met a stranger. Her daughters often joked that within a few minutes of meeting her, she would know your full life story.

Throughout her battle with Alzheimer’s, she remained positive, and had a gentle, loving spirit.

Ivor Deane was fondly known to many as “Mema.”

Friends and family will be received at the home of Paulette and Phillip Scarboro, 404 Chatwood Circle, Goldsboro, N.C.

Mrs. Harmon will lie in state at Seymour Funeral Home until 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016.

Graveside services will be held Monday, Nov. 28, at 2 p.m. at Ahoskie Cemetery in Ahoskie, N.C., with the Rev. Gary Bailey officiating.

She was deeply loved by her daughters and sons-in-law, DeAnna and Lee Ferrell of Carrolton, Texas, and Paulette and Phillip Scarboro of Goldsboro, N.C.

She is also fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Kelly Langston Capps, Shannon and Jason Richardson, Lindsey and Corey Brown and Phil Scarboro Jr., and friend, Elizabeth, and her four great-grandchildren.

She is survived by one sister-in-law, Mildred Edwards Peele, and three nieces.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Reba Mae Charles (Hubert) and Irma Dunn (David); two brothers, Linwood (Britton) and Lockwood Peele; and one nephew.

The family would like to express its heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Woodard’s Care for its loving kindness.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
